āsīd atīta-kalpānte

brāhmo naimittiko layaḥ

samudropaplutās tatra

lokā bhūr-ādayo nṛpa

SYNONYMS

āsīt — there was; atīta — past; kalpa-ante — at the end of the kalpa; brāhmaḥ — of Lord Brahmā's day; naimittikaḥ — because of that; layaḥ — inundation; samudrain the ocean; upaplutāḥ — were inundated; tatra — there; lokāḥ — all the planets; bhūḥ-ādayaḥBhūḥ, Bhuvaḥ and Svaḥ, the three lokas; nṛpaO King.

TRANSLATION

O King Parīkṣit, at the end of the past millennium, at the end of Brahmā's day, because Lord Brahmā sleeps during the night, annihilation took place, and the three worlds were covered by the water of the ocean.
